Your Auto Insurance: Why Your Address and Household Information Matter

A current address. A complete household list. A clearer picture of your insurance.

Your address is part of your insurance information

Your auto insurance should reflect where your vehicle is kept, who drives it, and how it is used. Complete information when you apply—and timely updates when things change—helps your insurance company evaluate your risk and price your policy accurately.

At Street Smart Insurance Solutions, we help you review your information and submit needed updates. We rely on you to provide accurate details and let us know when your situation changes.

Mailing address and garaging address: know the difference

Your garaging address is where your vehicle is usually kept when it is not being used, typically overnight. You do not need an actual garage.

Your mailing address is where you receive correspondence. It may be different: you might receive mail at a P.O. box while keeping your car at home. Your insurer needs accurate information about both. If different vehicles are kept at different locations, tell us about each one.

Where a vehicle is kept may affect your premium. Other factors can include driving history, driving experience, annual mileage, vehicle type and use, and the coverage limits and deductibles you choose. Learn more in our California insurance rating guide.

Disclose everyone in your household age 14 or older

Please disclose every person age 14 or older living in your household, including relatives and roommates—even if they do not drive, do not have a license, or have separate insurance.

Disclosure does not automatically mean everyone is added as an insured driver. Depending on the carrier's requirements and state rules, eligible people may be included as covered drivers or formally excluded when permitted. We can explain the available options and help complete the required forms.

An excluded driver should not drive your insured vehicles. An accident involving that driver may not be covered. Saying that someone does not drive is not the same as completing a formal exclusion.

Also tell us about anyone outside your household who regularly drives your vehicles. Read more about household disclosure and who is covered to drive your car.

Why missing or incorrect information matters

Incorrect statements or omitted required facts that materially affect an insurer's decision to issue or price coverage may constitute material misrepresentation or concealment.

Depending on the facts, policy terms, and applicable law, this may lead to a denied claim or rescission. Rescission means a policy is voided retroactively, potentially leaving you responsible for losses you expected insurance to cover.

Returned mail alone does not mean a claim will be denied or your policy has been canceled. It is a reason to verify your records promptly.

If we contact you about returned mail

Please confirm your current mailing address, residence address, and where each insured vehicle is usually kept—even if nothing has changed. Include any apartment or unit number, and tell us about changes to household members or regular drivers.

Contact us whenever you move, change where a vehicle is kept, have someone move into or out of your household, or change the drivers or use of your vehicles.

Need to make a change? Call Street Smart at (714) 736-9048, email support@streetsmartins.net, or text our team. We will help review your information and any carrier-required steps. Requesting a change does not by itself confirm that it has taken effect.
