There's a lesson my family and I try to live by at Street Smart Insurance Solutions: help people even when they can't help you back. This week, a friend reminded me what that looks like in real life, and I want to say thank you publicly.
A family business, like ours
Joshua Munguia works at Best Deal Insurance Agency in South Gate, a family business he runs alongside his sister, his dad and his brother. When I hear that, I smile, because Street Smart is a family affair too. We know what it means to build something together, to answer the phone for the customer who's been with you for years, and to treat every client like they're sitting at your kitchen table.

In business, time and resources are what most owners hold onto tightest. I understand why. There's always another call, another renewal, another fire to put out. That's exactly why it stands out when someone gives both freely.
Joshua has been a mentor and a leader in our industry. He shares what he knows, he picks up the phone, and he makes introductions that don't benefit him at all.
The mixer
Yesterday, Joshua invited our team to a mixer hosted by Bamboo Insurance. Bamboo is a carrier we've wanted to work with for a long time, and we're still working toward that goal. Joshua didn't just send us the invite. He took time out of his own day to walk us around and introduce us to the right people.
He didn't have to do that. Nothing in it was for him.
The bigger picture
The photo from that night shows a few people smiling in front of a banner. But the story is bigger than one event. It's about lending a helping hand when the other person can't return the favor. When you do that, the world really is a better place.
Some people might think it's risky for one agency to write a blog post praising another. I don't see it that way. There's enough business to go around. When independent agencies lift each other up, customers win, our communities win, and our industry earns a little more trust. I firmly believe in treating others the way Joshua has treated me, and this post is my small way of doing that.
